White Lodge bases the fundamentals of their programme on the following:
- Our belief in the potential of every child
- The knowledge that all learning is developmental
- Promoting active thinking
- Appreciating the strengths of each child and supporting them in taking learning risks
- Providing learning experiences that cater to the development of social, cognitive, motor, language and independence skills.
To ensure a level of consistency throughout the White Lodge centres, the teachers and facilitators appointed have areas of specialisation in the field of early childhood education, music, drama, art, motor-coordination and early years development.
The facilitator understands the expectations that are placed on them to offer a fulfilling and in-depth content to the children. They offer a play-based, experiential and research based programme which includes a variety of age appropriate activities. The children learn best when these experiences occur in relation to each other, rather than in isolation.
A common strand of unit ties the experiences together to provide children with a wholesome, realistic and integrated view of the concepts. Our programme includes the following:
- An enriching play-based programme
- Creative and open-ended art activities
- Music and movement activities which encourage exploration of instrument and foundational awareness in rhythm, timbre and pitch
- Cooking activities which fosters an awareness in simple chemical changes and encourages aesthetic appreciation of presentation and style
- Availability of toys and games for fine motor dexterity and muscle development which aids in midline crossing and bilateral coordination, which in turn, develop artistic abilities to create, paint and sculpt.
- Role play and dramatic play which facilitates the development of empathy towards characters and roles, voice projection and creative thinking.
- Opportunities for literacy awareness weaved into socio-dramatic play, art projects and the performing arts.
- Play and Art develops skills which are pertinent to the acquisition of numeracy and problem solving skills.
- Perceptual motor movement at outdoor play which fundamentally develops fitness and bilateral coordination.
