My early childhood education career started with the birth of my son 20 years ago, through whom I nurtured a passion to live and learn with children, and who made me believe more in the phrase “….catch them young”. While a Bachelor’s in Science specialising in Microbiology, exposed me to an environment of micro-organisms and gave me the discipline of systematic learning through observing, exploring and analysis; I decided to pursue an International Diploma in Montessori training to educate myself on the principles of educating little children, nurturing their potential to learn in an enriched, active, safe, hands-on and a child-centred learning environment. I joined White Lodge more than 4 years ago and have been actively engaged with the nurturing and learning of three-four year olds, where children experience learning as an adventure, build not only on their academic intelligence, physical and motor development, but are also imparted skills, opportunities and an environment to develop their social and emotional intelligence.
Teaching is a lifelong learning process of learning about new philosophies and new strategies, learning from the parents and community, learning from colleagues, and especially learning from the children. To continue this quest of lifelong learning, I have just completed a Masters in Education specialising in Early Childhood Education from Monash University, Australia. I hope to motivate and inspire my colleagues to continue to value lifelong learning, value parent involvement in the early years of their children and learn from children. I believe children learn best through building relationships with people, places, things and time to be confident in their own abilities, to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society. “Children are able to do tomorrow alone what they are able to do in co-operation with others today”, supports my philosophy of everlasting learning through cooperation or collaboration with peers: adults and children alike.
