Fairuz’s first career started when she was nineteen years old, where she was employed on a part-time basis in a Montessori centre. At time of her initial employment experience, she underwent a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Teaching and Leadership). It would be five years later before she joined White Lodge. She started her employment as a vice principal and teacher at White Lodge Kindergarten, Upper Bukit Timah.
She taught the Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes in Upper Bukit Tim up to recently when she moved to White Lodge, Loewen Gardens. She has taught the Wolf Pack class, which is a Primary School Preparation Programme, which provides Math, Phonics and Science Programmes. She recently completed her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, with a focus on Literacy. With these experiences and professional qualifications, she hopes to extend the various enrichment programmes available at White Lodge, Loewen Gardens.
“I remembered entering a centre during my vacation break when I was nineteen hoping to try a hand at being a teaching assistant. Throughout my years of novice teaching, I learned that each child is born with unique potentials which require stimulation in order to be revealed. As educators, we should nourish natural and positive learning experiences for children. We allow them ample time and much needed support in order for them to flourish. I believe that a safe and positive learning environment is crucial in helping the children to develop their self-confidence. Children should also be given encouragement to challenge themselves to reach his or her optimum potential. My biggest satisfaction is in seeing the children’s progress and celebrate their achievement. Their cheerful greetings and hugs bring joy and warmth.
As I part away from classroom setting, I am now taking a step forward in my professional growth. Being a Supervisor in the centre has presented me with new challenges and opportunities. Not only will I continue to work closely with the team of teachers, I will also work collaboratively with the parents. I hope to continue overseeing the many exciting enrichment programmes available at White Lodge and to extend the depth of their educational value and entity. As I begin this journey, I hope to continue build a closer relationship with and to inspire the children, teachers, parents, and community.”
