Each of the White Lodge centres offer a physical environment which accommodate children aged 6 months to 6.5 years of age. The spaces in each centre are arranged to accommodate movement of children among equipment and materials. The layout of each classroom invites the children to explore; we provide play items which contain the seeds of learning.
We provide the necessary supplies and tools to implement their creative ideas. Children are able to obtain these materials on their own when they need to use them.
Within the classrooms we have play areas that have various objects or materials that students can touch and move around in order to help them learn mathematical and other concepts; blocks, dramatic play, books, puzzles, water and sand etc. There is also a variety of quiet and more active areas to accommodate children’s different temperaments and needs.
We also provide central libraries, outdoor play equipment including climbing frames, swings, slides, trampolines, sand, water and painting areas and cooking facilities for weekly cooking lessons. These play areas facilitate the development of skills such as perspective taking, language development, mathematical and scientific awareness which are all pertinent in building an artistic disposition.
We use props on a weekly basis to reflect themes or areas of interest to the children which are aligned to the programme outline communicated to the White Lodge community.
